baskets

KEMALA’s baskets are made from natural fibre, particularly water hyacinth and bamboo. Water-hyacinth is an invasive floating plant often found in ponds, forming thick mats on the pond surface. They have a tendency to grow very quickly, so they need to be cut regularly to avoid disrupting their environment. When dried properly, the leaves of the water hyacinth are very sturdy and can be processed for a wide range of objects such as as storage baskets, placemats, and other homewares. Our natural fibre baskets from water hyacinth are export-quality with anti-mould finishing, and we love exploring different types of weaving styles for our creations. Do you notice the different types of weavings from our collection? They seem effortless but actually require a high level of skill and practice to ensure neat and consistent result!
